In 2018, Medentech officially joined the Kersia group. This strategic move aimed to strengthen and expand Kersia’s position in the medical and water treatment sectors, leveraging Medentech, now Kersia Healthcare’s extensive expertise and established market presence in these critical areas.
Medentech was founded in 1984 and, due to significant growth, opened a state-of-the-art production facility in Wexford in 1997. Our manufacturing journey began with Sterinova, a baby bottle sterilising product. Shortly after, we introduced Aquatabs water purification tablets, designed for emergency use in developing countries. Medentech also developed a range of surface cleaning and disinfection products to meet the demand for hospital disinfectants, eventually exporting to over 120 countries.

NaDCC Klorkleen 2 – US EPA registers KK2 (EPA 71847-7) as the first product to be effective against biofilms. The EPA developed a new efficacy protocol, KK2 effervescent disinfection tablets 1st, to pass this test.

Commitment to WASH in Healthcare facilities
In the second half of 2019, Aquatabs and Impact Water rolled out infection prevention solutions to Kenyan healthcare facilities, dispensaries, and hospitals to support the Global Health Council initiative to achieve universal WASH coverage in healthcare facilities by 2030.

Major article “Effects of a Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Mobile Health Program on Diarrhoea and Child Growth in Bangladesh: A Cluster-randomized Controlled Trial of the Cholera Hospital-based Intervention for 7 Days (CHoBI7) Mobile Health Program” published. Findings: The CHoBI7 mHealth program using Aquatabs water disinfection tablets lowered paediatric diarrhoea and stunting among diarrhoea patient households.
